Green Acre Grange to become one of Ireland’s first Blue Roof residential developments
RELATED PROJECTS
As one of Ireland’s leading property developers, we recognise the vital importance of our contribution towards making Ireland’s built industry more responsible and sustainable.
As we continue to investigate new ways to enhance our sites and achieve the highest standards in terms of sustainability, we decided to take our green roof strategy one step further, using Green Acre Grange, our development in Dundrum as a pilot scheme.
All our developments already incorporate green roofs, which are designed to encourage biodiversity and allow plant, bird and insect life to thrive, all the while improving air quality for residents.
The Blue roof system is a new sustainable urban drainage technology, designed to attenuate and manage rainwater at roof level via a restrictive flow outlet – this eliminates the need for large attenuation tanks at basement level, leaving more space for residents amenities.
By installing a Blue roof system beneath a Green roof vegetated finish, we will not only improve urban biodiversity on site, but also reduce the discharge of rainwater and drastically mitigate the risk of localised flooding.
This rooftop sustainable urban drainage system helps to increase the quality of the water that is being discharged from the site back into the system.
Blue and green roofs can also improve the thermal performance of a building by acting as insulation in the winter, helping in the longer term to reduce running costs and fuel consumption.
